OH HOW I LOVE THE NATIONAL MEDIA

LOL

Series tied? Really? I guess no one told Jimmy Rollins. Johnny cut-corners should have waited until the game ended before he hit the publish button. Idiots.

I FROZE MY ASS OFF FOR THIS?

A slight exaggeration. It was pretty chilly, and definitely un-June-like to those who have never had to stay up all night watching frost as part of their job description. I could have solved my problem by bringing my coat, which I left in my mother’s basement (where I allegedly write my missives) in my hurry to get out the door.

J-ROLL FORGETS TO SUCK FOR A MOMENT

All this “welcome back, Jimmy Rollins” bullshit, I don’t buy it. I’m not saying he won’t break out of his season-long slump. I’m just saying that a solo home run, while technically “the game-winner,” does not necessarily constitute a slump-breaker. It does bring to light, once again, the fact that the Phillies win around 70% of the games in which young James gets plated. So good for you, J-Roll. Way to kinda-sorta-well-not-actually-do-your-job. Forgive me if I don’t kiss your ass. In fact, I’d rather see Feliz on the scoreboard below. But AP photographers don’t take pictures of players that deserve to be All-Stars, apparently.

IN CONVINCING FASHION

The Phillies showed a national television audience what kind of team they are today, defeating Randy Wolf and the Dodgers 7-2 and settling for a series split in Los Angeles. Though the season series between these two has wrapped up before the All-Star break, the past four days leave a lot of baseball fans thinking October Preview.

NATS GET PWNED

Remember this play from Saturday, May 30th? Top of the ninth? Lidge on the mound, leadoff hit, man on first, no outs, 3-run lead, Nick Johnson up to bat? Ringing any bells? Best double play in recent memory.

PWNED!

CHARLIE WON’T NAME NAMES, BUT I WILL

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Tug, and I am a die-hard Phillies fan from the Pines of South Jersey. My man Chris here is kind enough to let me post my opinions here on this fine blog. If you’d like, you can find me on Facebook (Tug Haines) or Twitter (mistertug).

My likes are sushi, bacon cheeseburgers, cats and dogs, Photoshop, and hate.

My dislikes are the Mets, ESPN, and the writers for Sports Illustrated.

I’m a man of many words, so let me start with 9 – many of them surnames:

Victorino

Werth

Utley

Howard

Rollins

Ibanez

Feliz

(Catcher)

(Pitcher)

My point is this: Get J-Roll the hell out of the leadoff position. At least for now. I know he’s the so-called “pied piper of wins” for the Phils, but this is April 2009 and he’s been the pied piper of DICK so far. Hey Jimmy, if we wanted someone to swing for the fences on each game’s first pitch, we’d have Feliz or Stairs leading off. Just drive the ball and get on base, asshole. It’s bad news when your 2009 OBP is lower than Mario Mendoza’s career OBP (39 points lower).

Look, I don’t mean to say James won’t get right. But he’s doing the team no good at #1 for the moment. And he seems to respond pretty well to threats to his prestige (i.e., benching). The whole team needs a reality check, and if you check the de facto offensive leader of these men, it stands to reason that the rest will fall in place.
