Today the Phils will take on the Braves in game 2 of the season series opener. Jamie Moyer will take on Jair Jurrjens and Moyer will look to put a bad spring behind him, get the Phils back on track and get their first win. I will be attending this game and really fucking hope they win. Starting the season 2-1 is much better than 1-2 or, dare I say, 0-3. Here is the scouting report.
Phillies: Moyer turned 46 in November, but he keeps on going. He threw 196 1/3 innings last season, which he capped by picking up the win when the Phillies clinched their second consecutive National League East championship. He became the fourth pitcher in the modern era to win 10 games in a season he started as a 45-year-old. The others were Phil Niekro (1984-86), Satchel Paige (1952) and Jack Quinn (1929).
Braves: Coming off a strong rookie season, Jurrjens will attempt to prove that his advanced cerebral approach to pitching will help him make the adjustments that will help him avoid a sophomore slump. The 22-year-old right-hander ranked fourth in the National League with .53 homers allowed per nine innings. This provides better reason to understand why he allowed just two earned runs in 15 2/3 innings he pitched at Citzens Bank Park. While not enjoying equal success during matchups at Turner Field, he went 1-2 with a 3.33 ERA in four starts against the Phillies.
How it will go down: I am reluctant to make a prediction after the terrible one I made for Opening Night but for the sake of the preview I suppose I must. I say Phils win 8-4 with Moyer pitching decently 6 IP 3 ER. Please let them win…
And now for a new feature here at Long Drive called Douche of the Day. Today’s winner is Braves center fielder Jordan Schafer.
Nice face, douche.
Lastly, a fight breaks out at CBP seconds before the 2008 WFC banner is raised. Dumbasses…
