Today the Phillies traded catcher Ronnie Paulino, who they just acquired December 10th, to the San Fransisco Giants for lefty reliever Jack Taschner. Paulino was pretty disappointing this spring and even though he had minor league options and could have been sent to the minors he would have nowhere to go. He wouldn’t benefit much in AAA Lehigh Valley as Lou Marson’s back up. Taschner, or Trashner as I will call him until he proves he is worth something, has sucked pretty hard the last 2 years for the Giants. He is also sucking it up in spring training this year as well, posting a 6.23 ERA in 8 and 2/3 innings. Apparently Trashner will be the second lefty out of the pen until Romero returns from his 50 game suspension. The worst part about this is lefties actually hit better against Trashner in his career posting a .288 AVG against him as opposed to a .247 AVG against righties. But wait, there are good things that will come of this.
- Chris Coste will be Ruiz’s back up this year.
- J.A. Happ’s chances of being the 5th starter have been close to solidified.
Let’s close our eyes, hope for the best, and pray Trashner doesn’t fuck us up the ass (you know you’re scared to click that link) with shitty play.
