MAYBERRY AND HAPP CONTINUE HOT SPRING

MAYBERRY HITS A 3 RUN BOMB AND HAPP STRIKES OUT 7 OVER 3 INNINGS

The Phillies beat the Tigers today at Bright House Field by a score of 8-2. Moyer started the game going 4 innings giving up just 1 run bringing grand pappy’s spring ERA to a mere 1.50, showing no signs of aging. Following Moyer was 5th starter candidate J.A. Happ and he completely owned the Tiger’s lineup. He went 3 IP and struck out 7 batters. 7! That bring his spring ERA to 2.25 with 8 SO in 8 IP.

Now for the scoring and there certainly was a lot of it. Mayberry hit a 3 run homerun in the first that landed on top of the roof of the tiki bar in left field. Then in the 5th inning donald led off with a base hit and advanced to 3rd on an error. Next Marson grounded out but reached on an error scoring Donald. After Bruntlett singled and Dobbs walked, loading the bases,  Geoff Jenkins added a run with a sac fly and Howard promptly followed with a 3 run homer. At this point it is frustrating that Mayberry basically has no shot at making the team. If he played the infield it would be a lot easier for him.

HOWARD IS A BEAST

Howard also lined a foul ball into the press box and almost killed 2 people. Todd Zolecki has the picture and the story of the dent he put in the dry wall 20 feet behind the open window it sailed through.

Tomorrow the Phils take on the Braves at 1:05pm with Blanton and Carrasco taking the hill for the Phillies. Starting lineups will be posted when available.
