Well Pat Burrell and The Rays are making the trip to Bright House Field today to take on the Phils in some Grapefruit league action. You could say it’s a rematch of the 2008 World Series, but the truth is that it is just a spring training game. On the other hand, this will be a game of note just because we will get to see Pat the Mother Fuckin Bat take on the Phils for the first time. Personally, for me, this is going to suck. I hate that Pat is gone. I didn’t want him to leave at all. But now, today, I must face the ineviteable and see Pat play a game in an opposing uniform. I’m sure this has to be tough for many other Phils fans as well. Also of note, I will hold true to my promise that if Pat doesn’t get a standing ovation from the Phils fans in Clearwater I will drive down there and beat them in the face with a Phillies Pat Burrell bat. Here is today’s starting lineup and pitchers per Todd Zolecki:
1. Jimmy Rollins, SS
2. Shane Victorino, CF
3. Raul Ibanez, LF
4. Ryan Howard, 1B
5. Jayson Werth, RF
6. Greg Dobbs, DH
7. Miguel Cairo, 2B
8. Jason Donald, 3B
9. Ronny Paulino, C
Scheduled to pitch: Kyle Kendrick, Drew Naylor, Clay Condrey, Scott Eyre and Brad Lidge.
Oh yea, the Phillies lost 10-3 yesterday to the Reds dropping to 0-3 this spring. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
The Fightins check in all things gay with the Mets. John Maine looks homeless and incredibly gay.
The blog will be updated after Pat comes up to the plate for the first time if you can’t watch it yourself. So check back.
UPDATE: Jayson Werth has been scratched from the lineup due to “a tweaked right shoulder” Todd Zolecki once again has the story:
Jayson Werth has been scratched from today’s lineup because he tweaked his right shoulder while taking batting pratice yesterday at Bright House Field.
“So stupid,” Werth said about the injury. “It’s something that didn’t have to happen, but it happened.”
Werth and Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Werth would need a couple days to recover, so it doesn’t seem to be anything serious. Werth hadn’t played in the first three Grapefruit League games, which had many people wondering what was going on.
John Mayberry is taking his spot in the lineup and will hopefully continue his impressive spring.
UPDATE: Pat just strode to the plate and the Phils fans gave him a nice ovation. That saves me a trip to Clearwater…Pat popped out into foul territory.
