Chase Utley and Pedro Feliz continue their long rehab after off season surgeries that are presumed to force them to miss the start of the season, only with Feliz that wasn’t what we were originally told. When Feliz’s back surgury was first announced we were all told that he was going to be good to go on Opening Night against the Braves, but now it seems that isn’t the case after a recent article by Leslie Gudel. Now Feliz still believes he will be ready but Manuel has stated he isn’t as sure as his third baseman, he had this to say:
“It’s gonna be close, we’ll see what our trainers say,” Manuel said. “We’ll gradually work him in and see where he’s at in a couple of weeks.”
To me it doesn’t sound too good. With Utley we were always lead to believe he wouldn’t have the green light when the season started but then report after report came out saying how well the rehab was going and that he was ahead of schedule, which I don’t know about you but it gave me some hope. But Cholly has said Utley will not be ready Opening Night and it looks like he might have two infield holes to fill instead of one. Basically at this point all we can do is hope and pray that both Utley and Feliz can make it back in time to rape the Braves and FINALLY win an opener.
UPDATE: Scott Lauber has just put up a post saying that Utley is actually AHEAD of Feliz in his rehabilitation. Here’s what Manuel said:
“I would say Feliz right now might be on a longer leash than Ut, but at the same time, I feel like he’s not going to miss a whole lot of time,” Manuel said. “Utley is doing more right now. I think he is [closer to returning] because of what he’s been doing. Feliz has been working out this winter, but Utley is fielding ground balls. Feliz is not allowed to do that yet. Utley is just doing more. His workouts are more strenuous.”
Well there you have it. This could be a good or a bad thing. I’d rather have Utley back then Feliz given the choice but this just might mean Utley will be out the same amount of time and Feliz is jsut being pushed back now. I just hope at least one is ready for Opening Night.
