KENDRICK THROWS 5 SCORELESS AS PHILS WIN
Well, Eaton was scheduled to start this game but Kendrick was thrown in last second probably due to his rained out minor league game. Kendrick pitched 5 scoreless innings giving up 2 hits and issuing 2 free passes with 1 strikeout. This is definitely something we wanted to see from Kendrick. He kept his sinker down and was inducing tons of ground balls. Kendrick was followed by Condrey who pitched a scoreless inning and then J.D. Durbin surprisingly pitched 2 shutout innings. Who woulda thunk it? Finally Flash Gordon came in and gave up a lead off single then made the next batter pop up foul, ultimately he ended with a scoreless inning. Offensively Howard hit his 5th homer of the spring and Feliz and Jenkins hit back to back homers to make the score 3-0, which would account for all the Phils runs. Jenkins ended the day going 3 for 3 which was nice to see especially with his recent struggles. Looks like that home run he hit a couple days ago may have turned things around for him and gave him his confidence back.
Brad Lidge’s minor league game against the Yankees got rained out so he took place in a intrasquad game at the Carpenter Complex. He threw 1 innings, 19 pitches, struck out 3 and walked 1. So all is looking good for Lidge so far and he sees no reason eh won’t be ready come opening day. Here’s what he had to say.
“There’s nothing better than facing hitters, and that was a lot of fun,” said Lidge, who hasn’t faced hitters in a game situation since last season with the Houston Astros. “I felt a lot better (with my command). I think part of that is just having actual hitters, kind of getting a little extra boost and being able to lock in with an actual game surrounding. That’s real important for me. Obviously, I need a few more of those now.”
