The Phils #3 starter, veteran Jamie Moyer, continues to prove he still has something left in the tank. In the 3rd inning he was in a bases loaded jam but proceeded to strikeout the next hitter and then induce an inning ending double play. I know a lot of people are worried about Moyer and consider him a “question mark”, but honestly I still have a lot of faith in him. After the All-Star break he may tire a bit and his outings may not be as strong, but from what we’ve seen so far I am convinced otherwise. His finesse pitching is still very good, pitching to a 3.29 ERA this spring, and I can see him winning over 10 games again this year. J.C. Romero followed Moyer and gave up a 2 run single that was charged to Moyer but was unearned, bringing Romero’s spring ERA to a respectable 2.08 in a total of 4.1 IP. Romero went 1 1/3 IP giving up 1 hit with 2 walks(shades of why he was cut from Boston) and a strikeout. To finish the game off Travis Blackley pitched a scoreless inning, tagging him with a 7.27 ERA for the spring. Blackley has been used exclusively in relief lately and I think that indicates the Phils are looking to see if they can fit him in the bullpen as a lefty reliever out of the pen, especially after designating Fabio Castro to AA ball. As far as the offense it was pretty quiet. Jenkins doubled in the fifth inning and Ruiz later doubled him in. Ruiz continues his success this spring and I think he is poised for a breakout year and will live up to his expectations. He is batting .407 with 7 RBIs, a .485 OBP, and 4 doubles. One bad sign from spring is Pedro Feliz’s OBP problem continuing. His BA of .207 matches his OBP of .207 and that’s not a good sign he can correct his OBP problems of the past. So after 3 straight wins the Phillies dropped a game but it wasn’t necessarily a bad loss. I believe the Phils are showing a lot of signs that the regulars are ready for the season.

UPDATE: Brad Lidge will pitch a minor league game today against the Yankees minor leaguers. He is scheduled to start the game and pitch 1 inning. If all goes well he will be in the Grapefruit League game Sunday against Toronto. Check back later for Lidge’s results from the minor league game.

The Phils take on the Pirates today for the 43rd time this spring starting at 1:05pm. Adam Eaton is scheduled to start but also scheduled to suck as usual, let’s all hope he doesn’t. Box Score and wrap-up here at around 6pm.
