BRETT MYERS GOES 7 STRONG AS PHILS WIN 6-2
Myers was outstanding today going 7 IP with 5 H 2 ER and NO WALKS allowed, which is impressive over 7 innings. Myers spring ERA is now a mere 1.64 and he’s looking sharp. Madson followed Myers and pitched a scoreless 8th and Blackley pitched a scoreless 9th to end the game. This is what we have all been waiting for to see from this team. A little intensity, a little fire, anything thats gonna get them ready for the season. Myers looked like he was in mid-season form in this game and showed he’s ready to take the ball opening day. Offensively the Phils did good enough to get the W. They scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th on a single, a bases loaded walk, and a wild pitch. That gave them a lead that they would not surrender. In the top of the 9th they added some insurance runs on a wild pitch and a 2 out single by Snelling that he got thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double. Hopefully this kind of play can continue from here on and they will be ready come march 31st.
MANUEL HAS CLOSED DOOR MEETING WITH VICTORINO
After an 0-4 performance in the Phils 11-2 loss to the Twins, Manuel called Victorino into his office for a closed door meeting. The meeting lasted 15 minutes and Manuel also spoke with Rollins and Jenkins about their hitting. I like Charlie getting a little fed up here and speaking his mind, anything to get this guys ready for the open of the season. Manuel later said that a speech to the team is coming soon and he wants to do it during a game so everyone can see. Maybe after today’s victory Manuel will be a bit less upset but only time will tell. Victorino had this to say after the meeting:
“Personally, I’m not too worried,” Victorino said on Friday. “Yeah, it’s upsetting for Charlie because he sees a team going out there and not really playing well. Our intensity is definitely not there. You watch how we play and I think that’s frustrating to Charlie. The last 10-15 days you need to get in a grove so on Opening Day, you feel good at the plate. We’re going to get there. No one is panicking here … I’m not.”
Yea, no one is panicking YET. But I think their are a few Phillies fans who beg to differ. I’ll be on later to update if any quotes come out of the Phillies camp about the game today, so check back.
