Well Brad Lidge finally gave up is first ER, even though that never should have been a double because Werth misplayed the ball in center. Luckily Lidge’s first earned run came when the Phils had a 2 run lead. Lidge’s ERA is now 0.50 and he is averaging more than a K an inning. He has converted all 10 save opportunities he has had and this trade is looking better and better with every outing he has.

Ryan Howard had a good day going 2 for 4 with an RBI and is maybe showing signs of improvement but I won’t get my hopes up.

Pat Burrell also broke a recent mini slump with a 2 hit game. But the real show stopper was Jayson Werth. He went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and won the Phils the game hands down. So I’ll exchange a botched play in center for 4 RBIs anyday.

The game tonight wll be broadcast on ESPN which means we all have the great honor or listening to Jon Miller and Joe Morgan orgasm over how good Chipper Jones is and how many games Tom Glavine has won. I absolutely hate the games on ESPN, but whatever I’ll still watch and so will all you. Myers better get his shit together tonight and pitch a good game. He has a 3.00 ERA at home this year so I guess there is some hope.

Prediction: Phils win 6-3, I’m a homer.

Jimmy Rollins made a successful return to the Phillies line up on Friday night. He went 3 for 5 with a double and a 2 run homer. The Phils are just a different team with Rollins in the line up, a better team at that. I wonder how many of our 16 losses would have been wins with Rollins in the line up instead of Bruntlett. The Elias Sports Bureau said that the Phils lost an average of 1/3 of a run per game with Rollins out.

Cole Hamels went 7 innings giving up 4 ER and striking out 7. Hamels should be pitching better then that against the Giants quadruple A line up. But a win is a win and I won’t complain.

Today Grandpa Jamie Moyer is taking the hill against the young retarded looking Tim Lincecum. Last time out we scored 4 unearned runs against Timmy and came out with a win. Moyer will attempt his usual crafty off speed pitches and hopefully it works because if we don’t get at least 2 wins out of this series I will be furious. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think the Phils have lost a series since the Mets series at CBP. That’s pretty impressive. One last thing I want to touch on is Brad Lidge. It seems he has shaken off his past demons and he is looking just filthy. If he is not in the All Star Game come July I will be shocked. But every time out I wonder when that first ineviteable earned run is gonna come. Hopefully when we have at least a 3 run lead.

OK. I haven’t posted in a while and that is because my computer has recently stopped working. So now I am posting from my phone which is kind of difficult. But I assure anyone who actually reads this shitty blog that it will be up and running from this point. I won’t be able to add the usual pizzaz and pictures because I will be posting from a mobile device but I will try hard to still get my point across. That said, here is what I have to say on recent Phillies events…

I was at the game against the Giants when Pat hit the 2 run walk off homer and it was probably the best Phils game I’ve been to in quite a long time.

The Phils are off to a decent start this year going 20-16 to this point. A split with Arizona was ideal and I can’t complain. What I can complain about is Brett Myers. What is his deal? We need this 1-2 punch of Myers and Hamels to live up to the hype. Hamels, for the most part, has done his duty. But Myers is just struggling for unknown reasons to me and Myers himself. If Myers doesn’t get it going we have a serious problem because honestly we can’t rely on Moyer to be our second best pitcher.

As far as this upcoming Giants series I expect, no I demand a sweep. The series just a week ago we took 2 out of 3 but we struggles to win those 2 games, both being of the walk off variety. This series we need to knock them around and sweep.

The Marlins continue to perform at a level that they will not maintain. Soon they will realize they are the Marlins and start to suck again. The Braves are finally playing to their potential and I see them as a bigger threat then the asswipe Mets.

PHILS LOOK FOR FIRST 3 GAME SWEEP OF THE SEASON

PHI: RHP Brett Myers (2-1, 4.78 ERA)
Myers lasted at least seven innings in each of his past three starts and has allowed three runs or less in four of six starts this season. The Phils have won each of his past three outings. He has a 2.31 ERA in 35 innings against Pittsburgh.

PIT: LHP Paul Maholm (1-2, 4.22 ERA)
Maholm is 2-1 with a 6.50 career ERA against Philadelphia, including beating Jamie Moyer last Aug. 18 at PNC Park. Phils outfielder So Taguchi has torched him for a .583 batting average (7-for-12), but first baseman Ryan Howard has only two hits — and four strikeouts — in nine career at-bats against Maholm.

Well it’s another left hander for the Bucs, which means lots of K’s by Howard again today. Howard kind of got out of his slump yesterday by blasting a 2 run homer to dead center against Matt Morris in the first. Both games in this series the Phils have struck early with 2 runs in the first inning on Friday and 5 runs in the first inning Saturday. If the Phils can keep giving their pitchers run support like this, couple that with the lights out bullpen and that is a recipe for success. Game time is 1:35pm today and I say the Phils complete the sweep with Myers on the hill. No Phils pitcher has gone all 9 innings yet and I think Myers will be the first.

THIS ISN’T LAST YEAR…

Well the Phils find themselves back at the .500 mark once again. This game was up and down for the Phils. Kendrick wasn’t pretty today giving up 5 ER over 5 IP on 2 home runs. The Phils were down 5-2 in the 6th inning when Jayson Werth led off the inning with an inside the park home run to center field. This wasn’t a cheap home run either, he hit the ball 415 feet and it bounced off the bottom of the wall and kicked away from Taveras. Next up was Chase Utley who continued his hot streak by homering to right field off Redman chasing him from the game. Utley this game was 2-5 with a double, a HR, and 1 RBI. On the season he is now hitting .354 with 9 homers (leads MLB) 18 RBI, with a .430 OBP, he is jsut on fire.

Later on the Phils took the lead 6-5 on a bases loaded double by Carlos Ruiz. Ruiz is now 3-4 with the bases loaded this season while the rest of the team is 1-21, that is kind of sad. Condrey pitched a scorless 6th, Seanez a scoreless 7th, Gordon a scoreless 8th, and Lidge a scoreless 9th with 2 Ks. So the Phils bullpen continues to shine.

To everyone’s surprise T.J. Bohn, after pinch running for Burrell, came up with men on second and third and got a double to score 2 runs and get the Phils ahead 9-5. Go Bohner! So Phils look for their first sweep tomorrow albeit a 2 game sweep but a sweep none the less people and also trying to get above .500 for the first time this season in 700 tries. So last year was last year and this year the Phils hopefully own the Rox all year. See you tomorrow for the game preview Brett Myers vs. Jeff Frances, who is struggling early 0-3.

PETE HAPPY HITS A GAME WINNING PINCH HIT HOME RUN

Last night was a wild one for sure. The game started off great with a solo homer by the man’s man Chase Utley. With that one run through the first couple innings it looked like that might be all Eaton needed to get the Phils the win. In the 5th the Phils lead off with back to back singles by Werth and Dobbs and up came Utley. This time Utley unloaded on a low fastball and hit it HIGH off the right field foul pole for a 3 run shot. So going into the top of the 6th it was now 4-0 and it seemed the Phils were cruising, but of course with this team nothing comes easy.

The Mets tied the game with 4 runs of their own in the 6th inning all earned runs by Adam Eaton. Luckily some late inning heroics by good ole’ “Pete Happy” Pedro Feliz came at the right time. He homered to the opposite field off Pedro Feliciano. It’s just a funny match up, Pedro Feliz vs. Pedro Feliciano. I wonder if a Pedro has ever homered off another Pedro? So the only question left was if the Phils could hold this lead.

Fortunately 2 strong innings by Romero, the 7th and 8th, got the ball to Brad Lidge. Lidge did make the save interesting by allowing the first 2 players to reach base. With 2 outs after David Wright fouled out on a nice play by Howard, Eric Bruntlett made the #1 web gem of the day with a diving stop and excellent throw to first to end the game. Thank God we pulled out a win in this series. See you in July Asshole Mets.

ROLLINS IS FINALLY PLACED ON 15 DAY DL

Well I guess we all saw this eventually happening since he hasn’t started in 11 games. I just pray he has a speedy recovery because this team is not the same without him. Let’s hope the team can stay afloat cause we have 2 tough 2 game series coming up against the Rockies then Brewers.

JOHN MARZANO FOUND DEAD IN HIS PHILADELPHIA HOME

A time out here at Long Drive to remember a great person and commentator in John Marzano. I have seen Johnny Marz over the years on Comcast Sportsnet and on MLB.com’s Baseballchannel.TV and I have always loved listening to him. He was always smiling and always had great insight to every play in every game. I am personally shook by this loss and am very saddened. R.I.P Johnny Marz you will be greatly missed and best wishes to your family.

PHI: LHP Jamie Moyer (1-0, 5.52 ERA)
Moyer is coming off a no-decision against the Cubs on Sunday in which he allowed four runs over five innings, striking out two and walking one. His lone win this season came against the Mets on April 8, when he held New York to two runs in six innings. A matchup to watch here will be Moyer against Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado. Delgado has hit eight home runs off the southpaw, second only to Manny Ramirez’s 10.

NYM: LHP Oliver Perez (1-0, 3.38 ERA)
Though the Mets built an early lead for Perez on Sunday against the Brewers, he quickly lost it, serving up six runs in his second straight no-decision. Perez couldn’t escape the fifth, allowing eight hits in total — one of them a homer into Shea Stadium’s second deck. The lefty struck out four and walked three. Perez pitched well in his first start against the Phillies, but a high pitch count limited him to only 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball.

The Phils look to even the series at 1 game a piece today and avoid losing 4 straight to the Mets. Last night’s game was miserable and even after Dobbs hit the pinch hit 3 run homer I still knew we weren’t gonna win the game. Unfortunately Brad Lidge gave up his first ER of the year on a sac fly by Carlos Delgado but we all knew that would happen eventually and thankfully it wasn’t in a save spot. The first Burrell vs. Wagner match up of the year ended in Burrell popping up to short center field. Today will be another battle of lefties as Oliver Perez will take the mound against granpa Jamie Moyer.

Perez started his last start off strong but ended up giving up 6 ER in one inning. When he last pitched against the Phils he pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings but had to leave early due to pitch count. Hopefully today the Phils can jump out to an early lead and keep it. bottom line is we need Jimmy back, we can’t beat the Mets without him…

PHI: LHP Cole Hamels (2-1, 0.82 ERA)
Hamels is coming off a win over the Cubs, during which he threw seven innings of scoreless, one-hit ball. The lefty has been the Phillies’ most reliable starter in the early weeks of 2008, turning in three quality starts in three outings. The 2007 All-Star didn’t face the Mets during the Phillies’ most recent trip to Shea Stadium, but he is 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA against them in four career starts.

NYM: LHP Johan Santana (1-2, 3.05 ERA)
Santana lost his second straight decision last Saturday against the Brewers, serving up three home runs in his worst outing yet with the Mets. Extending his pitch count to 113, Santana struck out seven and walked two, though the homers accounted for four of the five runs against him. He’ll make his first appearance in this rivalry with the Phillies on Friday night, and his career debut at Citizens Bank Park.

This is it. The match up that everyone has been waiting for since Johan Santana was aquired by the Mets from the Minnesota Twins. Cole Hamels vs. Johan Santana. Change-up vs. Change-up. Hollywood vs. Crap. Anyway this game is huge from a rivalry stand point because these are the teams respectively best pitchers and Hamels has been compared to Santana since he has come up.

The Mets endured through a 14 inning game last night against the Nats and eventually came out on top. This means the bullpen, that we already own by the way, has to be pretty much shot for today’s game. This means Santana will probably be very aggressive in the strike zone and try to get quick outs so he can keep a low pitch count and stay deep into the game.

As I said yesterday this game means bragging rights for the winner and their fans. Santana is the pitcher that all the critics and writer’s said would win the Mets the division in 2008. So I would LOVE nothing more then to stomp him out and tag him for 7 ER in 3 IP and send him sulking back to the dugout and the Phillies silencing all the people who picked the Mets. That is what would happen in a perfect world. Hamels for one is not phased by the hype what so ever. he is ready to go. This is what he had to say when asked if he was nervous going against Santana:

“I don’t even care,” Hamels said. “The guy could have eight arms and it’s not going to bother me.”

Johan could be Carlos Santana for all the Phils care. I say we win this game, probably in a close one. We Should be GM’s has the perfect pictures to describe this match up:

Finally! The Phils dismantled the Astros yesterday in a convincing fashion, winning by a score of 10-2. The Phils hit a total of 4 home runs courtesy of Utley, Howard, Burrell, and Coste. Chris Coste was definitely the star of the game going 4-for-5 with a double and a home run. Two of the home runs came back-to-back by Howard and Burrell. I keep wondering when Burrell might slow down a bit and it is not happening, which is a very good thing. I am on record as saying Burrell’s contract year will be like every other year he has had, which is not a bad thing. So far I couldn’t be more wrong and I love it.

Brett Myers went 7 strong innings surrendering only a solo homer as his only earned run. So that has lowered Myers ERA by over a full point to 3.96 and it is his second straight quality start. Can you believe the Phils pitching is ranked higher in the Nl then it’s offense is? It certainly was not expected. The Phils offense ranked 10th going into the game where as the pitching ranked 8th. Oh and Tom Gordon pitched a scoreless 8th which is always good.

This was a great game to gain momentum going into the series with the Mets at home. Tomorrow is pretty much the match up of the century as Cole Hamels will face off with Johan Santana. I can’t wait for this game and I will probably be gitty all through work in anticipation for the match up. Unfortunately this game has it’s downside, which is if we lose the Mets fans will never shut up and I will want to go into hiding. BUT it is a case of dutch door action ladies and gentleman, the door swings both ways. If WE win then it is I who will not shut up. I will immediately call my Uncle Jack who is a die hard Mets fan and I will tear into him, not to mention my boss at work. So until tomorrow. PHUCK THE METS .
